The Fine Art Program at Saint Anthony’s
The Concourse level of the Student Center is home to the Fine Arts Program at Saint Anthony’s. Saint Anthony’s offers a robust Fine Arts Program with hundreds of students immersing themselves into the world of creativity and talent. Before, during and after school, students spend hours practicing, crafting, creating, presenting and performing their work.
“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
– Saint Francis of Assisi
Vocal, Instrumental and Performing Arts
Saint Anthony’s boasts one of the most robust Catholic high school choruses on Long Island. With over 500 members, this academic class focuses on sacred choral music and contemporary selections that culminate in a Christmas Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May.
Many students choose to continue their love of music by performing in one of our many instrumental ensembles including the Concert Band, the Orchestra, the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Band. Each of these groups are credit-bearing academic classes.
Students may also choose to participate in our extra-curricular activities including the Show Choir, the Improv Troupe and the Theatre Arts Program. These refined groups afford our talented students a tremendous opportunity to showcase their unique and incredible talents. Showcases, comedy nights, dramatic plays and musicals give our students the stage and the spotlight to enhance their experience as a Friar. Saint Anthony’s prides itself on supporting the arts in all of its various forms.
Visual Arts
Students in the Visual Arts classes at Saint Anthony’s are taught to see the natural world around them with a greater appreciation and understanding. Students are encouraged to connect ideas and concepts with the physical world around them through the practice of direct observation, study, and revision. Creative expression, made through thoughtful connections and experimentation, allows students to synthesize their ideas in multiple mediums.
Whether students are interested in traditional or digital media, two-dimensional or three dimensional art, or still vs moving imagery, Saint Anthony’s offers classes and electives across multiple disciplines with an emphasis on hands-on experimentation.
Artwork from all students enrolled in Visual Arts classes are presented each and every year in the Winter and Spring Art Shows. Additional extracurricular activities for those interested in the Arts are available in Art Club, Friar Media, Stage Crew, and Comic & Cartooning Club.
