The purpose of the Math Honor Society is to formally recognize talented mathematics students by membership in the national honor society, Mu Alpha Theta, and to create a mathematics community within Saint Anthony’s High School through tutoring, meetings and special interest speakers. Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society with 99,000 student members as of June 2013 in more than 2000 schools. As a national organization, it is dedicated to inspiring keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and beyond.
To be eligible for the honor society, a student must have a cumulative average of 90% or better in Math and be enrolled in Pre-Calculus or higher in the year of enrollment. Students are required to attend at least three meetings per year and volunteer to tutor mathematics at least once a cycle.
Students are invited to apply for membership each October. More information is available from the Moderator Mrs. Scharbach in the Math Department in Room 315.
