On Friday, October 13th, St. Anthony’s (4-1) looked for revenge against Christ the King(0-4) at CY Donnelly Field. The Friars lost to CTK last year, in part due to an injury to quarterback Bo Waters, 12-14 in the final minutes of the game.

The Friars got their revenge, dominating Christ the King in a 42-13 win. The Friars advanced to 5-1.

St. Anthony’s dominated Christ the King early, scoring 28 points in the first quarter.

When asked about the team’s hot start, junior wide receiver Kyle Angus said, “we were trying to catch the defense off guard with a fast tempo on offense and by executing our plays well.” Kyle played a nice role in the match-up, rushing for an average of 11.3 yards per carry on four attempts for 45 yards—23 yards came on a TD run.

Coming into the game, the Friars had some extra motivation after losing to Christ the King the last time around. Before the game, head coach Rich Reichert was asked about how they prepared the team to respond to last year’s loss. “Well, we keep reminding them the fact that we lost that game and I know our seniors remember it. You know, this homecoming, [there are a] lot of distractions. We hope we get focused and play a good football game tonight.”

QB Greg Campisi led the Friars offense completing 100% of his passes for 125 yards, with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Campisi and the rest of the offense were unstoppable, only being forced to punt once in the first half. The Friar defense was just as dominant. Senior defensive end Grayson Cherubino forced a fumble and set the tone for the rest of night.

Going into halftime the Friars led 42-0. Offensive Coordinator Chris Taylor was asked what was stressed the most on offense in order to ensure a Friar victory. “Just to start fast and get set up, execute, and just score and kind of put them out of the game,” Taylor explained at half-time.

In the second half, Christ the King scored two touchdowns, but they didn’t mean anything as St. Anthony’s went on to win 42-13.

The Friars next game is Saturday, October 21st, 1:30pm, at CY Donnelly Field against long-time rival Chaminade.
