Spotlight on our Financial Literacy Program

Financial Literacy…….

“It’s all our Business”  – Brother David Anthony Migliorino, OSF    Principal

Truth is that 93% of high school students are considered to be financially illiterate.

Truth is that 83% of college students graded themselves a “C, D, or F” in their money management skills-

Truth is that the United States ranks 14th out of 148 countries in adult financial literacy.

The Future Business Leaders Program at Saint Anthony’s is a before school program (7:30 a.m. until 8:15 a.m.) currently is comprised of 100 students who meet once a week. The Future Business Leaders Program in conjunction with our Social Studies Department features a Financial Literacy curriculum and a Guest Speaker Series.

In addition,  and of note, Saint Anthony’s was the first high school in the State of New York to partner with Barron’s in Education to address Financial Literacy.

The core of the curriculum is centered on introducing our students to making financial decisions, budgeting, value proposition of college education, savings and investing, the realities of living on your own, buying a home, taxes, credit, insurance, credit cards, cars, loans and leasing, and retirement savings.

The Guest Speakers Series is comprised of alumni, parents, and notable business people and even celebrities representing our global market place. All of our guest speakers are asked to impart their educational experiences in high school and in college, their professional careers and explaining what they actually do (a typical business day for them), their faith, and life lessons to our students.

Saint Anthony’s is also developing a unique connect four business mentoring program where we will link current students with alumni currently attending colleges where our students are looking to apply to and possibly attend, alumni in College with alumni five to fifteen years into their respective careers, and our senior alumni who are fifteen to fifty years into their careers.

Saint Anthony’s is currently in the planning stages to establish a Business & Entrepreneurship Center.
